The agency provides self help groups for individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include bereavement support groups, care giver/care receiver support groups, health/disability related support groups, and social clubs/events. CSC-Pasadena serves Foothill and San Gabriel Valley areas of Los Angeles County, however, there are no geographic restrictions.
Ongoing support groups for specific types of cancer focus on areas such as stress management and pain control, visualization and relaxation, or nutrition and cooking.
In addition to support group, the community provides various social programs which are open to anyone who has cancer and his or her significant others. Wellness and social/recreational activities are frequently offered.
People who are interested in help may become involved in numerous activities or they may stop by to talk with others who are working toward their own recovery. Cancer Support Community programs are viewed as an adjunct to traditional medical treatment for cancer, not as an alternative. The Community is supportive of anyone affected by cancer whether they are using traditional medical approaches or those treatments which are considered complementary and alternative.
There are special programs for children who have lost a family member or loved one. APPLICATION PROCEDURE We ask everyone who comes to the Community to complete a basic First Time Visitor Form; all information is kept confidential and anonymous. Call or walk in for information; a brief interview is scheduled with those who wish to be ongoing participants. The organization offers an orientation meeting for all who are interested which is required for those who wish to participate in weekly groups. FEES/ PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for services.
