The San Gabriel Region of Catholic Charities covers a wide geographical area from East Los Angeles to the Pomona Valley, bordering the San Bernardino County line. The three community services centers in the Region, Brownson House Community Center, Pomona Community Center and San Juan Diego Community Center are located in areas of extreme poverty and vulnerability, making them critical to the people they serve. The programs, offered at San Gabriel Region’s community services’ centers include: emergency and basic needs assistance, such as food, clothing, temporary shelter through motel vouchers, transportation, specialized rental and utilities assistance programs for low-income families, and on-site assistance with application for CalFresh benefits. The region’s programs are case-management driven, enabling center staff to assist individuals and families to effectively identify their challenges, overcome their hardships and set achievable goals for self-sufficient futures. Educational classes and life-changing services are also offered, consisting of: parenting classes; life skills; health workshops; support groups for women and the elderly; exercise classes; mental health classes; summer programs for youth; and special events held periodically throughout the year.
