The center provides counseling for individuals and families in the San Gabriel Valley area. Services include general counseling services; sexual assault counseling; child abuse counseling; family and couples counseling; sexual abuse prevention programs; spouse/intimate partner abuse counseling, parenting skills development, anger management, court ordered parenting classes and teen expectant/new parent assistance. Substance abuse treatment programs and child sexual abuse prevention programs are available on request. The center serves the San Gabriel Valley including Whittier and its surrounding areas.
Additional treatment modalities may include in-home counseling. Respite care, subsidized child care and case management services are available on request. The program cannot assist people who are chronically and severely mentally ill.
Family counseling services includes family preservation services for referred families. Services include in-home outreach counseling and case management for at-risk families. Families in the program are referred by hospitals and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
Individual, conjoint, children and adolescents, family and group counseling focus on common problems of living or particular crises and may include parent-child conflict, marital problems, postpartum depression, family communication, loss, crime victimization, anxiety or depression.
A 20-week parenting program is available for court-ordered and self-referred individuals; a special program is available for teen parents. A certificate is available upon completion of the class.
Child abuse prevention education is available for court ordered individuals. The program teaches non-offending parents and caregivers how to avoid potentially abusive situations and how to recognize the signs of abuse. Education programs specifically focused on child sexual abuse prevention are also available for community organizations or children’s or parents groups.
Spouse/intimate partner abuse counseling is available for both male and female domestic violence abusers. The professional training component of the center enables MFT trainees and interns to earn credit toward their licenses while assisting clients. Trainees and interns co-facilitate groups and provide individual and family counseling. The program recruits, trains and utilizes volunteers that assist with office work or special projects dealing with clients. The center also offers in-home parent education that teaches day to day care of children in their homes. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to schedule an appointment. Counseling services are by appointment; however, people who are in crisis may receive brief phone attention immediately. There may be a waiting period for some services. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE For the County funded program there is an initial $30 intake fee. The fees for child abuse-related services range from $0 to $90. Self-paid programs the initial/intake fee is $50 or $100, fees for individual, conjoint and family therapy range from $25 to $90.
There is a $20 enrollment fee for the parenting programs; classes are $10 per week.
Anger Management class registration fee is $50 and $25 per week ongoing fee. Individuals who qualify for the State of California’s Victims of Crime program will have their fees paid by the State. There are no fees for family counseling/preservation services. Private insurance is also accepted.
