Profile
The department provides housing services for low-income Pasadena residents, including people who have abandoned vehicle reporting/removal, deadbolt/security locks, disabilities and older adults. Services include home rehabilitation grants, home rehabilitation loans, home rehabilitation services, housing authorities, low income/subsidized rental housing, and Section 8 housing choice vouchers. Services are restricted to residents of Pasadena.
The division is a local public housing authority for the city of Pasadena. There is a waiting list for Section 8 rental assistance, and currently, the division is not accepting applications. A recorded message keeps callers apprised of the status of the waiting list.
The city also provides listings of low cost/below market rental listings for privately owned apartment buildings that are subsidized by government funding for rental to very low and low income families and seniors. One building, the Centennial Place, provides Single Room Occupancy units for very low income individuals. Some of the listings have waiting lists.
The Maintenance Assistance Services to Homeowners (MASH) Program provides home rehabilitation, abandoned vehicle removal, and deadbolt/security lock services for low-income families who own and live in a single family dwelling. Seniors and people who have a disability are given priority for service.
To qualify, people must meet the HUD low income guidelines, live in the service area, and provide verification that they own and occupy their own home. Staff assess the work to be done and whether it can be done by the program, and schedule a time to accomplish the job.
Housing search assistance is provided in the form of a listing of rental properties which is available on the agency website. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to apply or visit the City’s website.
