Profile
The organization provides self help groups for people of all ages, and their significant others, in southern California. Services include mental health related support groups for general depression, postpartum depression, bipolar or unipolar disorder, depressive or manic-depressive affective disorder; an internet support group is also available. There is a separate support group for adolescents at the same meeting time. There are no geographic restrictions.
Support groups provide a network for people who have these disorders and their loved ones as well as education for members and other interested people. Family, including children from age 5 to 18, and close friends of people who have these affective disorders are also welcome. Members share experiences, feelings, and concerns in a setting of trust and understanding to help each other learn more about these disorders and to find positive ways to cope and manage their illness. Children meet at the same time as the adult groups, with a facilitator who uses art as a means of expression for the children of participants.
Internet support groups meet for 90 minutes at selected times. Each group is limited to 12 participants and the room opens 10 minutes before the meeting time. Participation is first-come, first-served and individuals must first create an online account. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call, email or write for information. Visit the agency’s website for internet support group information and a list of guidelines. Due to Covid-19 services are provided virtually. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service; donations are accepted.
