The clinic provides mental health services for adults, age 18 and older, in the San Gabriel Valley who have a major psychiatric disorder, severe functional impairment and/or dual diagnosis. Services include in-person crisis intervention services, medication monitoring, mental health evaluation, outpatient mental health services, short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, psychiatric case management and peer counseling. The geographical area served by this office includes Alhambra, Altadena, Arcadia, Duarte, El Monte, Monrovia, Monterey Park, Pasadena, Rosemead, San Gabriel, Sierra Madre, South El Monte, South San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Temple City.
The geographic area served by the East San Gabriel Valley Mental Health Center includes Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Diamond Bar, Glendora, Hacienda Heights, Irwindale, La Puente, Rowland Heights, San Dimas, Walnut and West Covina.
The clinic also offers group and individual psychotherapy, case management, and supportive services at this site for adults who have been discharged from state, county, and county-contract psychiatric hospitals to help them make the transition back to the community and prevent rehospitalization.
Mental health evaluation is done with clients who meet the eligibility requirements and are seeking ongoing treatment at the center. The center does not provide court-ordered mental health evaluation.
The agency also provides services and support to mental health clients who are in recovery and no longer need intensive mental health services. Support groups for mental health issues and housing search assistance and certificate/forms assistance with SSI and SSDI forms are offered to clients.
In addition the centers provide assistance with referrals to health care providers. The program also provides healthy living and health management education. Referrals are given for, housing possibilities, benefit maintenance and short term or crisis mental health services.
Staff can evaluate psychiatric emergency situations by phone or on a walk-in basis during regular business hours. The Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT)is housed at a different site and is dispatched by the ACCESS center after-hours and on weekends. The PMRT team can be called for service in the community during service hours through the Arcadia center. The services may include short-term crisis intervention; involuntary hospitalization; and referrals for ongoing treatment, case management, and other appropriate services.
The East San Gabriel Valley Mental Health Center provides the Wellness Center which offers services and support to mental health clients who are in recovery and no longer need intensive mental health services. The Wellness Center provides self-help mental health support groups; peer to peer support groups; social/recreational activities; medication evaluation and support services; employment and education services, and integrated services and support for co-occurring disorders, such as substance abuse. Support groups for mental health issues and housing search assistance and certificate/forms assistance with SSI and SSDI forms are offered to wellness center clients only; individual counseling requires a referral from a DMH program or therapist. Peer support groups are available to community residents after screening to determine needs. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call for information or to discuss treatment needs in a telephone screening. Referrals and walk-ins are accepted. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE Fees are on a sliding scale based on Uniform Method for Determining Ability to Pay (UMDAP) guidelines; Medi-Cal is accepted.
