Profile
The program provides self help groups for adults, children and families in Los Angeles from locations: Los Angeles Medical Center, West Los Angeles Medical Center, Baldwin Park Medical Center, Downey Medical Center, South Bay Medical Center, Woodland Hills Medical Center, and two locations in Orange County. Services include bereavement support groups and bereavement group volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.
The groups are open to anyone in the general public who has experienced the death of a family member or other close relationship, as well as to Kaiser health plan members. Groups are not equipped to handle crisis intervention or serious trauma issues related to loss; but rather are oriented to coping with grief. All groups are facilitated by licensed mental health professionals; however, lay volunteer opportunities are available for ongoing peer support. The bereavement program also publishes a monthly newsletter with general information on grief, hospice services, and updated support group meeting information. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call to inquire about the groups and to determine if the group atmosphere is appropriate, or to volunteer. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are no fees for service.
Hours: Call for information.
