Profile
The agency provides housing services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include building materials/supplies donation programs, low cost building materials/supplies, low income home loans, sweat equity programs, and volunteer opportunities. Services are restricted to Pomona Valley residents.
The agency builds homes and refurbishes homes for low-income families who cannot qualify for conventional home loans. Applicants must currently live in overcrowded or substandard housing; must meet income eligibility requirements; must live in the service area; and must agree to contribute 500 volunteer hours towards the building of their home. Applicants must also be legal residents of the United States.
The agency also operates a home improvement store called ReStore. The store’s inventory includes surplus materials from construction projects, donations from people who are remodeling their homes and items from manufacturers’ overstock. All donations are tax deductible, and the donors are given a receipt from Habitat. All donated items are sold at reasonable prices and the proceeds go to supporting the work of the agency. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Call or walk in for service. CAID or CADL, birth certificates, marriage certificates, proof of legal residency, tax records, and proof of income are required. Applicants are accepted on the basis of need. Call the ReStore for information on donating building materials. FEES/PAYMENT SOURCE There are fixed-fees for service; participants repay a no-interest loan in monthly installments over a fixed period of time. Participants must also participate in 500 hours of “sweat equity” in the form of volunteer hours that contribute toward the construction of the home.
Hours: Tues-Sat, 9:00AM-5:00PM.
